HAITI
  • Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.
  • It is one of the most disadvantaged countries in the developing world.
  • The population of this Caribbean nation is estimated at over 8 million.
  • 50% of all children die before they reach the age of 15.
  • One child in five never reaches the fifth birthday.
  • Chronic malnutriton is widespread among the most vulnerable, with severe or moderate stunting affecting 42% of children under five years of age.
  • 76% of Haitians live on less than US$2 per day, while 55% live on less than US$1 per day.
  • Conditions are harsh and life expectancy is only 57 years.
  • Haiti has suffered a great impact from natural disasters in recent years.
  • Volitile situations can develop rapidly in Haiti and without warning, due to the frustrations caused by the extreme poverty and widespread hunger.
  • The country has been plagued by political violence and the United Nations has a presence there as peacekeepers.

Kids Against Hunger has made Haiti a top priority in the feeding program.  Haiti's President Preval asked our organization for 90 containers of food, enough to feed 500,000 orphans on a daily basis.

MEXICO
  • Hunger is the number one complaint of under-priviledged people throughout Mexico.
  • Mexico's National Institute of Nutrition reports 350 people die each day in that country from hunger and related diseases.
  • Extreme poverty in Mexico is widespread and the need for food is continual due to lack of ability to grow sufficient crops.
  • The hunger crisis has hit the indigenous communities especially hard.

Kids Against Hunger in Tulsa has been sending food into Mexico since December, 2003.  Jimmy and Yvonne Jones, Advisory Board members of Kids Against Hunger, Tulsa, work with Pastor Frank Gonzales of LaFeria, TX, to distribute the food in several areas in Reynosa, Matamoras and far into the mountainous areas of Mexico.

 ZIMBABWE

  • The people of Zimbabwe are facing one of the hungriest years in recent times.
  • Many are living on one meal per day and in some cases are existing on wild fruits.
  • An economic collapse, years of food scarcity, AIDS, an outbreak of cholera and poor weather have combined to cause the crisis.
  • The UN estimated that 45% of Zimbabwe's population, or 5.1 million people would need food by early 2009.

LOCAL AREAS

Each Kids Against Hunger satellite keeps a portion of the food they package for local area outreaches.

Pictured is a little boy eating KAH food in downtown Tulsa, OK during a ministry outreach in February 2009.

We don't overlook the needs in our own areas.
